From Picture To Painting
Shown above is a custom sailboat painting!
I was contacted by my friends, Ashley and Tim, to capture the picture of their sailboat, “Slow M’Ocean”, in the fall on the Potomac, onto a 36″ x 48″ Gallery Wrapped Canvas.
In the painting, I lifted up the boat so that more of it was showing, and excluded the hose that was on the dock.
I loved working on this painting. I started by sketching the photo onto the canvas. Next, I used blue painter’s tape to block off the boat and dock. Then, I worked on the sky and water first, laid down the background for the trees (putting the darkest color on first), and then started on the boat. The final step was to add in the dock and the fine details. For the crab trap, I used a fine Sharpie marker to get the tiny little details!
