The Art Project/Club Hispano De Lakeland and Polk State College presents "In Movement", by Alexis Martinez Puleio. The exhibition starts on August 22nd, and ends on September 23rd.
Please join us for an opening reception on September 1st, 2016 from 5pm-7pm at Polk State College Winter Haven Gallery.
Alexis Martinez Puleio
Alexis started to develop her artistic abilities in 2000, exploring the natural forms of movement. Now specializing in acrylics, she is a sought after commission artist in Naples, Florida, where she resides with her family.
In her explorations, Alexis moves from abstraction, and a play with colors, to a deeper look at the human body, especially in her series in reference to the yoga practice. Her human forms seem to twist and turn, in a way that reshapes the natural world. Alexis’ finished paintings manage to express a preternatural quietude, and the possibility of a sudden explosion in movement.
Researching textures in her flamenco dancer series, Alexis has built up recycled paint until the dancer's dresses stick out of the canvas in an almost three dimensional manner. The flamenco dancer’s movement is captured in a brief moment of time, with the built-up texture seemingly creating jewels in their dresses.
Her play with colors leads Alexis into her exploration in epoxy resin abstraction, with flowing waves of ocean hues, and clouds of pink, gray, and soft blues. It is the same movement she has sought to express in the figuration her paintings take on.
One can tie all her styles, each striving to convey and instill a progressive emotion, to the search for movement.
